Blow it up or die trying

I tore through this book. It's engaging, comedic in a Hitchhikers' Guide-sardonic way, and surprisingly relevant today. The sexism and raccism are unfortunate byproducts of Abbey's character, and degrade the value of the book, but while reading you could convince yourself it is simply the character's moral failings (although once you read up on Abbey you know this to be untrue).

The book makes me want to perform some targeted property destruction, "because someone has to" as Doc often says. However, it doesn't shy away from the dim reality that even the coordinated, fantastical sabotage that the Gang performs is just a scratch on the surface of the industrial machine it hopes to interfere with. There is a sense of futility in the story - but not hopelessness.
